New York, August 10-11, 1995

Dear Christine's Mom,
If you are reading this, I promise, this is the one and only time we did anything like this.
Gretchen, Christine, Sandy and I would never borrow Sandy's mom's car and drive to New York City in the middle of the night. We would never drive on the track at Valley Forge Intermediate School. We wouldn't take a glow worm to light our way. We wouldn't get there and realize that we had absolutely nothing to do, and turn around and come home in time for work the next morning. We were good kids.
Really.
Love,
Megan

I'm so glad that you have that postcard. I saw mine sometime in the last couple of years, but I'm not sure where it is. I need to look through my papers.
And I told mom the story last week -- not sure what made me think of that story in particular.

Did you tell her about driving on the track? That's probably the only part of the experience for which we could have gotten in real trouble. I just remember Sandy clutching the wheel and the amazing cloud of dust we kicked up behind us... I miss being seventeen. Not really. But I do miss the feeling of invincibility.
Was your mom... surprised? I always wondered if our parents really knew exactly what we were up to and didn't care. I don't think we were nearly as subtle as we believed we were.

I didn't mention the track episode.
I don't think that she was aware that we'd done that, but I don't think that she was deeply surprised.
Oh -- and I found my postcard. Scanning now!

I do believe that the glow worm is still around.

I think that the glow worm should make an appearance at the dinner for Gretchen. Gretchen loved the glow worm.

I think that the glow worm was out of batteries, last I checked. He should be somewhere at home though.
